Doctrine gives an organization a common framework for understanding problems and coordinating action. It can preserve hard-earned lessons, establish shared language, and reduce the need to reinvent basic solutions. Doctrine can also become detached from its original purpose when conditions, equipment, personnel, or threats change.
The useful distinction is between principles and methods. Principles may remain durable while specific techniques evolve. A mature training system understands why a method existed, identifies the problem it was designed to solve, and tests whether it remains appropriate. That process matters in CQB and other tactical environments where a rigid answer may fail against changing geometry, incomplete information, or an adaptive opponent.
