Who Is “Roland”?
“Roland” is the name Chuck Pressburg used within parts of the online firearms and tactical community. Long before every professional maintained a public brand, screen names allowed experienced people to participate in technical discussions while keeping some separation between their work and their public online presence.
Chuck’s contributions were not limited to equipment recommendations. His value to the P&S network came from connecting technical details to a defined problem, explaining why a method existed, and challenging people to distinguish functional requirements from fashion or inherited habit.
Episode Focus
This is not a short technical lesson or a narrowly scripted interview. It is an extended conversation about the person behind the name, told among people who knew, trained with, or interacted with him. The panel provides context that cannot be captured by a résumé alone: how ideas develop through discussion, how professional experience affects problem-solving, and why certain individuals become influential inside a technical community.
Because the discussion was recorded in 2016, listeners will also hear the P&S network at an earlier stage. Some equipment, affiliations, terminology, and online references reflect that period. The enduring value is the reasoning, professional culture, and history documented by the panel.
Roland and the Roland Special
The nickname is also inseparable from the “Roland Special,” the influential compensated, red-dot-equipped Glock configuration that grew from Chuck’s carry pistol and the discussions surrounding it. The configuration became widely copied, modified, criticized, and eventually commercialized in numerous forms.
The lasting lesson was larger than a parts list. The pistol represented a mission-driven approach: define the performance needed, understand what each component contributes, test the complete system, and accept the tradeoffs rather than copying an appearance without understanding its purpose.
