Matthew “Matt” Meckley is a U.S. Army infantry veteran, Army-trained sniper, former sniper team leader, overseas protective-security professional, law-enforcement officer, and Primary & Secondary contributor. His background spans military reconnaissance and precision shooting, partner-force instruction, protective operations, civilian law enforcement, and international sniper competition.
Meckley served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 2005 through 2012 and completed two tours in Iraq. He graduated from U.S. Army Sniper School in September 2010 and left active service as a Sergeant and sniper team leader. Department of Defense reporting from 2011 identified him as an infantry scout with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment.
During that deployment, Meckley helped train Iraqi soldiers to develop a scout-sniper capability built around observation, reconnaissance, concealment, target discrimination, positional skill, precision marksmanship, and judgment—not merely the possession of scoped rifles.
After active-duty service, Meckley worked in overseas protective security. His professional biography documents a 2013 deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan, with Academi as a Protective Service Specialist and Designated Defensive Marksman. He subsequently spent approximately five years supporting a U.S. government client on protective-detail operations in Kabul.
Meckley later entered Washington law enforcement. He joined the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office in 2019 and served in its Pro-Active Policing Unit. In May 2025, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced his hiring as a lateral deputy.
