RDS on pistols

I too am interested in the why of the 34? Especially since it was already stated elsewhere on this forum that having an RDS on a 34/35 would pretty much negate the advantage of the sights radius. To quote Matt- "The benefit from a G35 (or any of the longer slide models) is the increased sight radius. Placing an RDS on it removes the benefit of the longer sight radius."

Sight radius for the most part. With an RMR I realize that it would not matter too much.

I run 17 right now and I have no need for a 19 at this point.

I can carry a 17 comfortably concealed. It may very well be that I have observed really skilled shooters use them and that is swaying my opinion.

Without an RMR I would assume the longer sight radius would be more forgiving of mistakes

Just read that other thread. Makes a lot of sense. I can get some time behind all three(34/17/19) with an RMR with the people on my team.

Before cutting up one of my guns for an RMR or buying a new gun, I'll get some licks on them and see what's most comfortable.

Unity Tactical slide on my G19. I originally had a RMR02 on there, but it just wasn't to my taste. I horsed traded with a guy that had a T-1 and an adapter plate. Holy shit has it been a force multiplier for my dicked up eyes(three corrective surgeries).

Here is my list of RDS equipped pistols:

Gen 4 G22 (Stormlake 9MM barrel) with Aimpoint H1 with Unity Tactical Mount milled by Mark Housel at L&M Precision
Gen 4 G19 (USA build - unicorn series ;) ) with a RM06. Milled by Zev. Bought from Aaron Cowen of Sage Dyanamics
Caspian double stack 1911 9mm with a RM08 milled and tuned by Mark Housel at L&M Precision
Para Tactical double stack 1911 45 ACP with a Deltapoint milled and tuned by Mark Housel at L&M Precision
Kimber TLE/RL II 1911 (yeah I know Kimber sucks blah blah blah) with a Jpoint

The Glocks are my main carry guns. The 1911s are reliable but just too heavy, but a fun to shoot and train with.

My obsession with RDS began with an M&P CORE (since sold). I bought because of my crappy 44 year old eyes (insert sob story here).

Long and short of it:
Training with red dots have actually improved my iron sight shooting because it trained my eyes to both stay open.
Precision beyond 15 yards is not a guessing game as it is with iron sights that cover a bulls eye at that range.
The sight picture is now threat oriented not front sight oriented.

Be Good. Stay Safe.

Double stack RDS 9mm 19/2011 is in my future..... I will probably retire all my Glocks when I hang up my guns and walk away.

This is what my mind sees for me when I think RDS on a pistol!!!!

Great gun. Jury is still out on if it is worth the price. You can probably go to a qualified smith (Atei, L&M Precision, MOD1) and get everything done for half the price. Also having owned that trigger on a M&P CORE....well it is good...but not 200 bucks better than Apex good.

I agree on the cost!!!! As it would take me winning the lottery before I would drop that much money on one. I have been running factory triggers on all my M&Ps since I have been running them for about 4 or 5 years now. While I have heard a lot about the APEX i just recently upgraded one of my M&P's to the APEX Flat Trigger and man am I happy!!!!! I still am not ready to upgrade all my guns yet as it will need a lot of testing before I feel comfortable with its reliability!!!

Honestly.....if your M&P shoots accurately (my CORE did not) there is no need for an upgraded barrel. If you took it to a Smith it would be 250 for the rds cut, 550 for a RMR RM06, 80 for black suppressor height sights, and 150 for the front serrations. the window cuts aren't necessary unless you really need that extra slide speed for comp. So 1030 vs 3050 (Salient work plus rmr)...seems like a no brainer to me.

I purchase a SAI and the entire experience left a lot to be desired. Not trying to take this off topic

Only RDS pistols I have shot were open class comp guns. So my experience on the actual topic is worthless.

I have a RMR 02 on a G19 that was cut for Unity Tactical's ATOM mount. Jumped in early when they first came out and a 8 MOA non adjustable was the go to for duty use. Now that more people have been at it, the adjustable with smaller MOA is the preferred. Tried the T1 on the gun and it worked better and faster but for CCW use, it was a bit large so went back to the RMR. I'm sure a T1 can be concealed as I know a few that do but it's not the one for me...yet. Might have to decide and trade/sell the RMR for another micro.

There is another thread about custom Glock shops, you should share your opinions of SAI there. I am interested.

I have these two...basically the same gun with the exception of optic...RM01 and RM05...why those two you may ask? Because I have far better friends than I deserve...

WHEN these two optics fail, I believe I'll go to RM06/07...or if the footprint changes, I can swap out to what the next evolution is...a wise man once said the RMR is the least shitty RDS available for the pistol at this time...ANOTHER wise man told me that the footprint will eventually change, so go ATOM/LM/Housel...

Either way, I've found that the rubicon (distance shooting) for me is now imminently more crossable with the RMR...10988569_10205254225229597_3662283449323154530_o.jpg
