Michael “Doc” Hewett is a U.S. Navy veteran, former Navy Corpsman attached to Marine Corps reconnaissance personnel, firearms and tactics instructor, former private military contractor, protective-operations professional, curriculum developer, security consultant, and owner and lead instructor of RSKTKR Consulting.
Hewett spent 11 years in the U.S. Navy. He began in security and law-enforcement roles before transitioning into medicine as a Corpsman. His assignment supporting Marine reconnaissance personnel placed medical responsibility inside a demanding operational environment, where casualty care, mission awareness, team integration, communication, and evacuation requirements could not be treated as separate subjects.

Protective and Overseas Operations
After leaving active service, Hewett worked in the Middle East and Europe as a private military contractor. RSKTKR Consulting
Hewett founded RiskTaker Services in 2004 after concluding that portions of conventional military and law-enforcement training relied too heavily on established techniques without adequately preparing students for unpredictable real-world problems. The organization later developed into RSKTKR Consulting, a veteran-owned training, intelligence, and risk-management company.
The company’s instructional philosophy is centered on what the student can learn and perform—not on demonstrations of what the instructor can do. This shifts the instructor’s role from presenting expertise toward developing capability in another person.
Learning as Architecture
Hewett has more recently described this approach as “Learning as Architecture.” The objective is not simply to transfer isolated techniques, but to develop a structure that helps students recognize, organize, analyze, and solve unfamiliar problems. Technical skills provide building blocks; judgment determines how and when they are assembled.
