Professional Biography
Scot Hoskisson is an engineer, inventor, firearms-product designer, and founder of RS Regulate, an American manufacturer best known for modular optics-mounting systems for AK-pattern rifles and related firearms.
RS Regulate grew from a specific problem. In 2009, Hoskisson wanted to mount a Trijicon ACOG on a Bulgarian 5.45×39mm AK, but available mounts did not provide the height, eye position, and center-over-bore alignment he wanted. After building a solution for that rifle, he discovered that it did not align correctly on a Romanian SAR-2 because AK-pattern rifles and their side rails vary across countries, manufacturers, models, and individual examples.
Hoskisson addressed that dimensional variation by separating the rifle interface from the optic interface. In the resulting two-piece system, a rifle-specific lower attaches to the receiver side rail while an optic-specific upper can be adjusted laterally before being secured. The architecture later added further positioning options and developed into the AK-300 Modular Side Mount System.
The design permits modern optics to be mounted low and positioned appropriately while retaining the rifle’s established side-rail interface. Its modular structure also allows specialized upper and lower components to share a common connection rather than relying on one large universal mount.
Hoskisson is identified as the inventor on U.S. Patent No. 8,726,562, “Optics Mount for a Firearm,” granted in 2014. The patent documents the adjustable relationship between the firearm-mounted base and the optic-supporting structure. His work helped establish RS Regulate as a prominent name in American AK optics integration.
