Michael “Mike” Mihalski is a founder of Sons of Liberty Gun Works (SOLGW), a San Antonio firearms manufacturer specializing in AR-pattern rifles, components and weapon systems intended for defensive and professional use.
Mihalski co-founded SOLGW in 2014. Rather than attempting to replace the established AR operating system, he built much of the company’s identity around component selection, correct assembly, quality control, realistic maintenance and predictable performance. His central argument is straightforward: a serious-use rifle must function consistently, and visually similar components are not necessarily mechanically equivalent.
That approach emphasizes the details that determine whether an AR-pattern rifle operates as a complete system. Mihalski’s technical discussions frequently address bolt-carrier-group materials and testing, gas-system balance, fastener installation, springs, buffers, extractor components, service life, suppressed operation and preventive maintenance.

SOLGW appointed Nate Horvath as chief executive officer in February 2025, while identifying Mihalski as a company co-founder. The company continued to identify Mihalski as its founder in its November 2025 announcement that the SOLGW MK1 had been selected for a U.S. Special Operations Command Combat Assault Rifle contract.
