Mark Cockman — Retired EOTECH Executive, Law-Enforcement Professional and Optics-Industry Educator

Mark Cockman is a retired firearms-industry executive, former Utah law-enforcement officer, and professional educator whose career connected duty-optics manufacturers with law-enforcement agencies, distributors, instructors, and end users. His experience spans patrol and investigative work, special operations, government and law-enforcement sales, product management, marketing, night-vision and thermal-imaging education, and long-term professional relationship development.

Law-Enforcement Background

Cockman served as a certified Utah peace officer from 1989 through 2016. From 1989 to 2001, he worked with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, dividing his service among patrol, investigations, and special operations. After leaving full-time service, he remained active as a reserve officer with the Salt Lake County Constable and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office until 2016.

That practitioner background gave him direct familiarity with the public-safety community and the operational requirements later supported by his industry work. It also helped him communicate with agencies and officers as someone who understood the institutional, training, procurement, and field-use contexts surrounding professional equipment decisions.

Firearms-Industry Career

Cockman entered firearms-industry sales in 2001. His positions included Regional Sales Manager at ProForce Law Enforcement, sales work with Remington, National Sales Manager at Aimpoint, Western United States Law Enforcement Sales Manager for L3Harris Technologies, and senior sales leadership at EOTECH.

Effective October 1, 2020, he became EOTECH’s Vice President of United States Commercial and Law Enforcement Sales. His responsibilities included improving sales processes, supporting industry partners, providing service to law-enforcement customers, developing sales programs, and coordinating relationships across commercial, government, distributor, and professional-user markets.

Cockman’s work sat between manufacturers and the people selecting equipment for professional use. He helped transmit operational requirements toward product companies while also translating technical product information for agencies, instructors, distributors, and decision-makers. This two-way exchange supported better-informed procurement and gave manufacturers clearer insight into field expectations.

Areas of Expertise

His principal areas of experience include law-enforcement and government sales, duty optics and sighting systems, night-vision and thermal technology, product management, marketing, agency and distributor relationships, crisis-management concerns, and professional education. He taught courses throughout his career in cooperation with a variety of manufacturers.

Cockman was particularly effective at professional networking and relationship development. In practice, this meant identifying the appropriate subject-matter experts, agency representatives, company personnel, instructors, and distribution partners, then maintaining communication across organizational boundaries. Those relationships helped technical information and practitioner feedback move in both directions.

Optics, Night Vision, and Professional Education

Cockman’s work extended beyond conventional sales leadership into knowledge transfer. In January 2020, he was identified as one of three instructors for “Night Vision 101 and Introduction to Thermal Imaging Technology,” a SHOT Show Law Enforcement Education Program course presented by EOTECH and Safran Optics 1.

The course addressed how night-vision technology works, differences among generations of equipment, the significance of major system components, the science of thermography, and real-world applications of thermal imaging in law enforcement. His participation reflected the combination of technical familiarity, public-safety experience, and communication ability required to explain not merely what a device does, but how its capabilities relate to professional needs.

Education

Cockman earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Utah. He also attended Marion Military Institute. His education in public administration complemented his law-enforcement and industry experience by providing additional grounding in institutions, government operations, leadership, and organizational decision-making.

Primary & Secondary Network

Within the Extended Primary & Secondary Network, Cockman contributes institutional knowledge concerning duty optics, law-enforcement procurement, technical education, industry partnerships, and the relationship between equipment manufacturers and professional users. His career illustrates how credible industry representatives can support both product companies and agencies by understanding the requirements and limitations on each side of that relationship.

Related technical material is available through Primary & Secondary’s Optics and Red Dots topic hub.

Professional Significance

Cockman’s career joined three perspectives that are often separated: law-enforcement practitioner experience, manufacturer and distribution knowledge, and professional education. That combination allowed him to help agencies evaluate technology, help companies understand end-user requirements, and develop relationships that supported informed equipment decisions over time.

Now retired from his industry career, he remains relevant to the professional optics community through the knowledge, instruction, and relationships he developed across Aimpoint, L3Harris, EOTECH, ProForce, Remington, and the law-enforcement agencies he served.
