Sarah Hauptman is a co-owner of PHLster, co-inventor of the PHLster Enigma concealment system, product developer, concealed-carry educator, and firearms instructor. Her work has helped make concealment mechanics understandable and applicable across a wider range of body types, clothing choices, carry positions, and daily activities.
Hauptman’s most distinctive contribution is translation: turning concealment from a vague product-selection problem into a teachable process based on body geometry, clothing behavior, pressure, leverage, positioning, safe holster requirements, comfort, and individual fit. The Enigma and Product Development
The PHLster Enigma challenges the assumption that a handgun-support system must depend on the wearer’s clothing belt. The chassis is worn on the body, allowing users to position the firearm in a natural concealment area independently of the pants waistband. This expands practical options for athletic clothing, skirts, leggings, formal clothing, and other garments that do not work well with conventional belt-mounted holsters.

Concealment Mechanics
Hauptman is one of the central educators behind PHLster’s Concealment Mechanics curriculum. Her teaching then examines where the gun prints, the body’s usable peaks and valleys, the available concealment envelope, and the mechanical effect needed to correct the problem. This framework recognizes that two people using the same gun and holster can receive very different results. The correct solution depends on the individual body, firearm, clothing, activity, and access requirements.
Teaching Across Body Types and Carry Methods
Hauptman’s work is especially valuable because it applies the same principles to users who were frequently underserved by older concealed-carry advice. Her instruction has addressed concealment for women, plus-size users, different clothing systems, and people whose bodies or lifestyles do not match the assumptions built into conventional belt-and-jeans recommendations.
