Professional Biography
The late Patrick A. “Pat” Rogers was a United States Marine combat veteran, retired NYPD Sergeant, Gunsite Rangemaster, firearms instructor, competitive rifleman, writer, government counterterrorism trainer and consultant, and founder of EAG Tactical.
Rogers entered the Marine Corps in 1963 and served in Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division. Across his active and reserve career, his specialties included tank crewman, rifleman, infantry unit leader, primary marksmanship instructor, parachutist, and nuclear-biological-chemical defense officer. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2.
His civilian public-service career included work as a New York City correction officer followed by approximately two decades with the New York City Police Department. His assignments included patrol, street narcotics, anti-crime, robbery investigations, supervision, technical-response work, and hostage negotiation. Published professional biographies credit him with 54 departmental decorations, including the Medal of Valor.
Rogers served approximately 12 years as a Rangemaster at Gunsite Academy and operated EAG Tactical from 1989 until his death in 2016. Although he taught multiple weapon systems, he became particularly influential in modern AR-pattern carbine training. His instruction joined gunhandling, maintenance, realistic equipment evaluation, high-round-count validation, after-action reporting, and continuous curriculum refinement.
Through EAG Tactical, Gunsite, government work, extensive writing for S.W.A.T. Magazine, and the instructors and students he developed, Rogers helped establish an evidence-driven professional training culture. His enduring lesson was methodological: observe performance, identify failures, update the system, and teach the reasons behind the technique.

Pat Rogers had a foundational influence on Primary & Secondary’s approach to carbine training, equipment evaluation, professional learning, and after-action reporting. His instruction and writing shaped members of the P&S network directly and through the continuing EAG Tactical lineage.
