Alex Horcasitas retired from the New Mexico State Police in 2015 after a 20 year career where he served in various duty stations statewide with experience as a patrol officer, investigator, and street crimes unit Sergeant. He has 11 years of supervisory experience as a Sergeant. He earned a position on the NMSP Tactical Team in 1998 and spent the next 17 years gaining experience as a Tactical Team member. He spent his first 3 years as operator/counter sniper, 9 years as Team Leader (sniper and entry teams), 2 years as assistant commander, and 3 years as team commander. He was an instrumental player in the Tactical Team becoming a Full-Time duty. He was also a founding member of the NMSP Tactical Teams Explosive Breaching Program. During his time on the team he participated in over 800 SWAT missions in every area of the state and has received over 2000 hours of advanced training and has 21 years of experience as a firearms instructor. He is certified to instruct handgun, shotgun, carbine, precision rifle and ground control. He holds instructor certifications from NM DPS and US Department of Energy and Earned his NMDPS Master Firearms Instructor Certification in 2003, one of two NMSP officers to be Master certified at that time. Alex served as a key Firearms Instructor for NMSP Recruit School from 1997 to 2015 where he instructed hundreds of recruits and provided advanced training for commissioned personnel statewide. Additionally, he served as a member of NMSP Shooting Team; competing in multiple disciplines as SWAT commitments permitted. He is currently a Senior Weapons and Tactics Instructor at The Range at Austin.
