Mike Pappas is a suppressor-industry entrepreneur, product developer, and co-founder of both SilencerCo and Dead Air Silencers. His career has helped shape the modern commercial suppressor market through practical design, product development, and public education.
Professional Biography
Pappas began his professional life as an automotive mechanic and developed an early interest in machine guns, suppressors, and other NFA-regulated firearms. His mechanical experience led to work repairing customers’ rifles at a Salt Lake City-area gun store, followed by firearms retail and increasingly specialized involvement with suppressors.
He became one of the original founders of SilencerCo and contributed to the company’s early development. His work included involvement with the Sparrow rimfire suppressor and its internal sleeve system, which addressed the practical difficulty of disassembling suppressors after heavy rimfire fouling.
After leaving SilencerCo, Pappas and suppressor designer Todd Magee co-founded Dead Air Silencers in 2014. Dead Air’s product lines have included the Sandman family, Mask rimfire suppressor, and KeyMo mounting system. The company’s current technical materials continue to identify Pappas as a co-founder and central figure in its development.
Pappas’s broader contribution is the combination of mechanical intuition, extensive end-user experience, product development, and accessible technical communication. His career spans the period in which suppressors moved from a relatively small NFA niche toward wider use by recreational shooters, hunters, competitors, law-enforcement agencies, and other professional users.
