German milsurp ammo?

I recently bought 450 German surplus .308 rounds from a work buddy for a stupid-good price ($0.20/round) and I have a few questions about it--this stuff will be for range blastification, not serious use, so any terminal performance issues against anything other than paper don't really apply. I'll be running it through my SCAR-17 so the quality of the rifle isn't really an issue either.

Question the first:
The bullets are silver-colored and I'm assuming that this isn't a big deal, rather just a quality of whatever gilding metal alloy the Krauts used to make them--is that correct?

Question the second:
Are there any resources to which you could point me for deciphering German headstamps?
