It has become painfully obvious that I am not as versed with the Kalashnikov platform as I should be. I am anxious and willing to remedy this situation. What reading material, websites, etc. would you recommend to help with this?

Matt HaughtAnother good one. I have the 1st edition, but the 2nd ed has more info. Lots of good stuff on US civilian market AKs as well, whereas the CG book is more focused on military models.

Nate BlissDozer, Blackheart Int. has a small reference book for the use and employment of the basic AKM and ak-74. It also includes basic maintenance tasks and zeroing instructions. Well worth the $15 or so.

Libardo JimenezThank you all.
As a side note I just want to say how fortunate we are to have this group. I posted this question 25 minutes ago and already have more information that I could have thought of.

Nate BlissAndrea Helm, that one would work too. It is just much more comprehensive.
This is the one I was referring too. I typically leave it in the range/travel bag for that gun. It's small and durable enough.

I'm pretty sure between the two of them they could run an amazing Soviet Block "Mail Order Bride" service of seriously kinky (albeit Lethal) proportions.
