Thoughts on Magpul AFG?

Used it for some months on my issued C7NLD since the piece of plastic added to the C8 upper has no bottom rail. My monkey arms needed the extra length I got from letting it stick out. After that I did the same thing with my C8 to prevent burning my fingers on the bayonet lug. It provided me with a nice spot to pull the rifle in, but I switched to the XTM handstop. I prefer the lower profile.

I used them for a few months. They were used between vertical grip and hand stops along my personal journey of rail addons. I don't remember exactly what caused me to move on from them. It might have been due to incompatibility with in car rifle racks.

bought one when it first came out. I didn't feel like I got a good grip on the fore end with it. It didn't last long on my rifle. Sold it to a buddy that had bigger hands, he still has it on there.

I have two, one on a C308 and one on my .458 upper for my AR. Both are the older ones that slip over the Pic/1913 rails, not the M-lok ones. I think they are comfortable, not much hard use through either one though.

I have one on the carbine I keep for ready service. It helps keep my hand where I need it to be, so in that respect I guess it works as designed. But it is largely just extraneous kit at this point. I experimented with reversing the orientation to set up a push pull with support hand thumb oriented forward. Thought I had a brainstorm or maybe a better way, but that configuration was kludgey in training with that configuration . An actual hand stop, or a stubby VFG worked way better if that approach was desired.

I used them for a while and ultimately found that I could do a similar grip using a VFG that was more effective and took up less real estate. The one place I keep them are on braced pistols where a VFG is a no-no to give me a little better grip without skirting a potential line. I do appreciate the little lip on the end on guns with muzzles close to the forend to act as a small handstop.

I had one on a Colt 6940 for a while, and issues with car racks are what got me to switch to the RVG.
