The Why of AR over a Pistol

This thread is pieced together from a sidetracked Facebook post after an original was deleted by a removed individual:

“…why ARs are desirable for home defense over pistols…?”

If you haven’t bothered to listen, please avail yourself of the following Primary and Secondary YouTube video, it’s long but it’s worth it.

The consensus on the benefits of the AR over a handgun, are the ease of use due to more points of contact with said weapon and low recoil. The AR is also fairly easy to maneuver due to its relatively light weight. Another point is, barring way extended magazines for a Glock or similar, the AR has capacity going for it as well when you have the option of 30, 40, or 60 round magazines. There are larger capacity magazines, but then we get into weighing the carbine down. Lastly, ammo selection is pretty vast in the 5.56mm realm.

It is worth checking out Doc’s words over on Pistol-Forum regarding ammo selection for duty and/or self defense.

Where ammo selection is concerned, in Matt Prime’s words, M855 is touted by people who don’t understand it isn’t actually armor piercing and that there are better options for self defense and duty use.

Joshua Jedidiah contributed the images which may have come from Brass Fetcher’s channel. Please keep in mind that these were not in traditional ordnance gelatin so there may be some deviation from how these bullets would have performed there.
