Solutions for nerve damaged pistolero's

To get the sob story out of the way, I've got a degenerative neurological disorder. The part of that that's relevant to the handgun thread in P&S is that I found out when I started getting serious about shooting, that I lacked sufficient feeling in the tips of my index finger on either hand to be able to feel the short travel low weight triggers that dominate the market via glock, m&p's, the 509, etc. We all know to keep our fingers out of the damn trigger guard when it's not supposed to be there, but I just can't shake feeling like it's unsafe to not be able to feel if I'm pressing the trigger. This led me to my current choice of almost exclusively DA/SA and DAO handguns, where there is a point in the trigger press where I am actually able to get tactile feedback. I'm curious about what solutions those of you in similar circumstances have come up with, any better solutions we can work on to enhance us all, or if there's any errors in my thought process that landed me where I'm at.
