Scrub Carry

What do you use to covertly conceal carry a single stack 9mm or .380 ACP handgun, light, and a reload while wearing scrubs?

Asking for my Wife’s Aunt who is a Dental Assistant. She’s looking at picking up either the Sig 365, Shield 9mm, Glock 42, Glock 43X/48, or Walther PPS.

Ideally the setup would be something that can be swapped easily from a pair of dirty scrubs to a set of new clean ones, and out of/ into regular everyday clothes before/after a work shift.

I haven’t used one yet, but I will soon, but this sounds like the perfect fit for the SmartCarry. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it and since I’ll be living the J-frame lifestyle soon, am definitely interested in one.

My wife carries a glock43 in a telor tactical bellyband. The review is she actually wears it so that is a good sign "not quite the same enthusiasm for a self defense prerogative as myself". She wears it both with scrubs and light business casual. She does physically work with patience too so bending, pushing, setting a 12lead so and so on. No complaints so far shes had it about 9-10months.

I've made holsters for folks that carry in scrubs with an Ulticlip, but I personally feel as though scrubs are too flimsy for that.

The clutch is going to be too bulky, already ruled that one out. Ryan B. On Discord suggested belt loops on scrubs.

A cheap Biothane belt and a decent holster should allow for easy swapping from regular clothes and over to a clean set of scrubs.

Only thing I can add to the conversation is the Ulticlip is the way to carry safely where a belt is not available. Anyone seeking alternative methods for no belt, or non-standard pants (think velcro straps to tighten motorcycle pants) should look hard at the Ulticlip. I have the XL version, and it works with/without belts exceptionally well.

I would highly recommend the Phlster Engima as well. It's literally made for situations such as this.

I'm glad the guy wearing scrubs that I encountered this morning wasn't carrying. It might have been my ass if he was. He got in the driver's side of my truck while I was outside the passenger side in the Lidl parking lot. I was meeting my wife this morning to pass our daughters over so she could take them home after her shift at the hospital last night while I went in to work.

I was talking to her and saw an older gentleman in scrubs headed our way. When I saw he was headed to my driver side door, I hollered at him and said, "Sir, that's my truck." He either ignored me or didn't hear me. I opened the passenger door and reiterated it was my truck. He said, "You can have it." I guess he thought I was trying to steal it (with my family there in my business attire) or was joking. I couldn't fully tell since he was wearing a mask. I said, "no sir, this is MY truck."

He finally looked in the passenger seat and saw my lunch box and bag and said, "So it is." He got out, apologized, said, "I guess I'd have realized it when my key didn't work," and went to get in his truck several spots over. We had the same model, but mine is navy with no roof rack, and his is dark gray with a rook rack.

I assume he worked a shift last night and was simply tired and had zero SA.

My usage has been pretty brief, but about two months ago I switched from a Keepers kydex insert in a belly band to the Mastermind Specialist Covert (the manufacturer might be better known as Graith). My use case is carry under a tucked in shirt in an office setting. I recently started a new job where my office is an NPE, so I thought I needed something that would print less than the belly band setup I used previously. I've not had the chance to use or even see an enigma in person, so I can't compare the two from experience, but this is a much more low-tech answer to the same questions the Enigma sets out to answer.

Like the Enigma, this allows you to use an actual kydex holster meant for use with a normal belt. I've found it to be night-and-day more effective than the belly band because the belt allows my holsters' claws and wedges to do their jobs.
Unlike the Enigma, which uses a thigh strap for stability, this uses strips of grippy rubber to stay in place. I was skeptical, but it actually works quite well in my experience so far. That said, I'm sure it's not going to be as secure as an Enigma with a thigh strap all said and done.

I tried with this because it was very inexpensive, I was in a hurry to develop a better NPE setup, and at the time Enigmas were hard to get. It was meant to be a stopgap until I got an Engima, but at the moment I'm so satisfied that I'm probably not going to bother with an Enigma for a while. I don't think I've had enough time with it to recommend it personally, and I'm certainly no authority anyway, but I thought I would mention this because I think it's another noteworthy non-bellyband option.

Pictured is it used with an M&P 2.0 4" in a JM custom George, and a P365 in a JM wing claw. The P365 is my NPE setup for the office.
