In feudal Japan, a Ronin was a samurai warrior who, either by consequence or by choice, had no lord or master. These samurai were wanderers who sought honor, purpose, and the mastery of their weapons. The most famous Ronin was Miyamoto Musashi, whose text The Book of Five Rings, is still considered a classic resource on combat strategy. Miyamoto differed from his peers in that he disregarded sword handling showmanship in favor of more efficient but brutal weapons manipulation. He as also believed in achieving complete ability with both the longer katana and the shorter wakizashi swords, akin to being proficient with both the assault rifle and handgun. Like these samurai, we at Ronin Combat Strategies are dedicated to becoming machine-like with our weapons through the intense study of simple but deadly fundamental skill sets. Jason is a veteran U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant who served as a Team Leader with the Special Reaction Teams. He is also a former Team Sergeant for a full-time SWAT Team with a large municipal police department. He has over 20 years of honorable service with the military and law enforcement. A certified firearms instructor since 1995, he held such positions as SWAT Team Leader and Training Coordinator, Unit Training NCO, and full-time LE Range Instructor who specialized in Tactical Firearms, Active Shooter Response, Patrol Rifle, and Live-Fire Shoothouse Operations. Jason is a TN Post Certified Firearms Instructor, and has successfully completed the NRA Firearms and Patrol Rifle Instructor Courses, FBI Firearms Instructor Course, NTOA MP5 Submachine Gun Instructor Course, and FBI Basic SWAT School.
Jabo is currently serving as a Team Leader on a full-time SWAT Team with a large sheriff's department. He has an extensive background in both conducting and training others for high-risk law enforcement operations. He is a TN Post Certified Instructor in several subjects, has successfully completed numerous courses including the FBI Firearms Instructor Course, and is a graduate of the Dept. of the Army/FBI Hazardous Devices School (Bomb Technician).
Mark is a diverse shooter with both competitive and practical experience. He is an avid USPSA, IDPA, 3-Gun, and Steel Challenge competitor. He is also an ex-civilian contractor with extensive South West Asia experience with Blackwater (currently operating as International Development Solutions). Mark worked extensively with the Coalition Provisional Authority and other Blackwater ground teams in responding to both the Al Fallujah Blackwater ambush and the Muqtada al-Sadr uprising in 2004. In 2004 Mark worked extensively with Blackwater ownership to create Greystone, Ltd. Mark also has extensive experience working for international corporations in the area of global risk management, fraud mitigation and resolution, and corporate criminal investigations throughout North and South America, Asia, and Europe. Mark currently works for a publicly traded company in the Washington, D.C. Metro area.
Phillip is currently serving as a Team Leader on a full-time SWAT Team with a large municipal police department. He is a TN Post Certified instructor in CQB. Phillip has attended numerous courses including the OSTC Advanced CQB Instructor Course, FBI Firearms Instructor Course, TEES Basic Explosive Handler, Mechanical Breaching, and High-Risk Dignitary Protection Courses, and CQB Inc. Shoothouse Instructor and Hostage Rescue Courses. Phillip also brings a left-handed shooter's perspective to our training courses.
Rick is an accomplished competition shooter who is a USPSA Grandmaster, IDPA 4-Gun Master, 2-Time IDPA National Championship Runner-Up, and a TSA National Champion. He is a TN Post Certified Firearms Instructor, NRA Police Firearms Instructor, and an FBI Certified Firearms Instructor. Rick is currently serving as a Police Officer with a large municipal police department.
Randy is a veteran U.S. Army Sergeant who served as a Sniper Team Leader and Section Leader with 8 years of service. He conducted multiple overseas deployments and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sniper School and the Advanced Sniper Course. Randy served as an instructor for the U.S. Army Sniper School MTT, Advanced Sniper School, Squad Designated Marksman Course, Sniper Employment Officer Course, Stryker Brigade Counter Sniper Course, and the Stryker Brigade Small Unit MOUT Course. Randy is currently working overseas as a contractor.
