Thought some of you might enjoy a project of mine that I can say I am very pleased with myself. After buying and shooting the 856 TORO early last year, I decided I really liked having an RDS on my revolvers. I already loved carrying a snubbie in my pocket but wanted to find a way to combine those two joys into something I figured would be a goldielocks carry gun. As I'm sure many of you know, the TORO only comes in the three inch version which is a lovely gun but doesn't fit in my pocket. So, after looking up several options, I took matters into my own hands. I ordered an 856 2" with a concealed hammer which was not a TORO model. I then bought a C&H precision TORO optic plate, and sent them both off to a gunsmith so he could drill and tap the two holes in the top strap to mount the plate. Two short weeks later, I was the proud owner of a 2", concealed hammer, RDS bearing revolver.

I've taken it for a few range trips so far and have decided there's no going back for me. After zeroing at 15 yards, I was able to run drills at the 3 yard line as quick as I could on an iron sight gun with about the same accuracy. But the game changer was when precision was required. At 25 yards, I could keep everything in the A zone without issue as long as I took my time a little. After a bit, we decided to have some fun and walked back to the 50 yard line and I was very pleased to find I could reliably keep about 5 out of 6 rounds on a 10" plate while just messing around.

I'd love to hear if anyone else is rocking an RDS on their snubbies and what their experiences have been. So far, I am loving mine though.

I'm hoping if people play with the idea and word gets out how cool it is that more offerings will be made for it. I'd be stoked to see more off the shelf options for RDs revolvers. Even better would be an RDS designed with revolvers in mind or a revolver built ground up for RDS. Not sure what either would look like but the idea is very intriguing to me.
 
Shield Arms makes an optic mount for j frames. Options are limited but I'm guessing they will grow. I'm worried that the optic will take too much away from the snub's best attribute, its concealability. Do you still find it pleasant to carry?

So far, in cargo shorts and my everyday type khaki pants, it has been quite comfortable still. I have noticed on certain cuts of pants the optic will print through the pocket a bit more than I like. The saving grace there is that because only the optic is printing and it's an enclosed emitter type it honestly looks like I have an iPhone charger block in my pocket.

Doing dry fire reps and the little range time I've had, the draw from the pocket is just as clean and easy as without an optic.

Something I had been worried about but I haven't actually seen at all yet, is the brightness of the dot being bumped while in my pocket. So far, even carrying it all day most days and squatting and moving around, I've yet to have the brightness change at all.
