+P 230gr 45acp?

is it really necessary in jhp loads? speaking of 230gr federal hst +P it packs quite the punch! shooting range reloads no prob standard stuff..then loaded a mag with the federals friggin hand went a lil numb after a mag! i liked it tho..is the +P more ideal for lighter bullets in 45?..multiple rapid hits on target consistantly seems like it might be more work and not worth the effort with the 230gr +P..?

We have issued 230 gr HST at my small LE agency for about 8 years (in process of switching to 9mm). Until about 2 years ago, we issued +P. Switching to standard pressure increased accuracy and decreased split times pretty much across the board. I believe there was a cost savings as well..
