LMS Defense offers a range of courses for the complete beginner to the seasoned operations team member. These courses are offered at different locations and facilities by a number of ourinstructors. Regardless of which course you attend, all courses have the following general requirements:

CCW & Related Courses
Our CCW courses are designed to prepare those seeking a concealed carry weapon license by ensuring safe and proficient weapon handling, marksmanship, and mindset. We also offer several CCW related courses which offer complementary skills to CCW holders.

Idaho Enhanced CCW

1 Day

The Idaho Enhanced CCW Course is specifically designed to combine our world class handgun fundamentals curriculum with all of the necessary elements outlined in the new Idaho State Enhanced CCW law. This course is compliant with the updated Idaho Statute 18-3302K, making the successful student qualified to apply for the new "Enhanced" Idaho CCW beginning July 1, 2013, allowing for carry in close to 40 states, including Nevada and Utah. This course includes instruction in Idaho law relating to firearms and the use of deadly force, responsible firearms use and safety, self-defense principals, moral and ethical issues related to the use of force, daily handgun carry principals, gunfighting fundamentals and dynamics, weapons handling, effective close quarters engagement techniques, and concealment holster use. Pistols available for rent. We recommend this before you buy for first time shooters.

Self Defense for Concealed Carry

1 Day

Carrying a firearm often gives us peace of mind but the unfortunate reality is that most situations we may find ourselves confronted with will not be resolved with a firearm. This one day course will provide the concealed carry permit holder, plain clothes or off duty law enforcement officer with critical skills to maintain control of your firearm during a physical altercation. Topics covered will include weapon retention both in the holster and outside of the holster, weapon takeaways, strikes, blocks, holds. This is a hands on practical application class that will require physical exertion.

Prerequisites: Basic gun handling skills

Introductory Courses
Our introductory courses are designed for the new or novice shooter. Courses are typically one day only with minimal gear requirements and round count.

Pistol Clinic

1 Day

This fun and informative course is designed for novice and regular shooters. LMS Defense’s professional and comfortable learning environment will enable you to quickly learn handgun safety, core fundamentals and shooting dynamics, weapons handling, effective handgun engagement techniques, and holster use. You will also take home techniques and skills to train correctly on your own. This is a great course for new gun owners and recreational shooters to take the plunge into getting professional instruction without a large financial and time commitment. We strive to teach these low stress courses locally and often. Rent pistol, 3 magazines, holster & magazine pouches for $20/per day.

Carbine Clinic

1 Day

This low stress but challenging course is designed for new carbine owners, weekend shooters and professional gun handlers who want a fundamentals refresher. Our comfortable, professional learning environment allows students of this course to learn safety, carbine setup and deployment, rifle marksmanship fundamentals and core defensive carbine skills. You will also take home techniques and skills to train correctly on your own. This one day course also sets the student up to get the full learning potential out of a two day Carbine One or similar course. At a minimum, you will leave with a zeroed carbine that you will know how to safely handle and employ. We strive to teach these courses locally and often.

Knife Defense Clinic

1 Day

Edged weapons are highly accessible, easily concealable and are a growing threat on today’s streets. Reality based self defense training cannot be complete without a basic understanding of how to defend yourself and your loved ones if faced with this potentially deadly threat. This clinic will focus on basic combatives, instinctive defenses, and defending against dynamic attacks from any angle (over hand, under hand and straight thrust stabs and slashes). The course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to begin rudimentary hand-to-hand combatives and self-defense training against an attacker armed with a knife or similar edged weapon. Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older. NOTE: STUDENTS SHOULD BE OF GOOD HEALTH AND PREPARED FOR MODERATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. There are a limited number of participants accepted for this clinic, so please pre-register early in order to ensure placement

Ladies Beginner Pistol Clinic

1 Day

This low stress course focuses on teaching the ladies in our lives the basic fundamentals of shooting a pistol. Topics covered include weapons familiarity and breakdown, core skills of shooting and marksmanship, draw techniques, holsters and where to carry on your body, mindset, and much more. This class has a 2-3 hour classroom presentation and a 3-4 hour range portion.

Ladies Beginner Carbine Clinic

1 Day

This low stress course focuses on teaching the ladies basic fundamentals of shooting a carbine; also know as an M4 or assault rifle. Topics covered include weapon familiarity, core skills of shooting and marksmanship, zeroing, positions, malfunctions, mindset, and much more. If you want to try a carbine before you buy we have complete setups available for $35 day; comes with carbine, 3 magazines & optic in 223 or 22 caliber.

Shotgun Clinic

1 Day

The LMS Defense Shotgun clinic will provide a good introduction to using the shotgun as a defensive weapon. The clinic will cover how to effectively use the shotgun in a variety of situations. Time will include partial reloads, emergency reloads, ammunition selection and shotgun deployment inside a house.

AK Clinic

1 Day

An Introduction to the Combative Kalashnikov. The LMS Defense AK course will teach marksmanship fundamentals, combat stress management, rifle zero, rifle manipulation, ground gun fighting, gear selection, and ongoing self-training tools. All while using the AK platform. This class will also explore the design and history of this legendary battle rifle found throughout the world. This fast paced, challenging course will enable you to intelligently integrate the Avtomat Kalishnikova into your arsenal of options; helping you to remain the Last Man Standing.

Pistol 1

2 Days

The Pistol 1 course will teach weapon manipulation, marksmanship fundamentals, combat stress management, movement, use of cover, fighting from unusual positions, ground gun fighting, concealed weapon tactics and continuing self training tools. This fast paced, challenging course will better enable you to use the handgun as an effective part of your defense system.

Precision Rifle 1

2 Days

An intensive course that covers all of the skill sets required to engage targets with accurate rifle fire, at any range. This course focuses on precision shots from 0-500 yards and provides useful techniques for tactical applications, hunting, or competition. In addition to long range marksmanship techniques, students will learn how to determine the capabilities and limitations of their equipment through careful data collection.

Intermediate Courses

Intermediate Pistol Clinic

1 Day

This one day course will focus on the fundamentals and mindset of a Combat Pistol. It will focus on multiple target engagements, taking a precision pistol shots and the use of cover and concealment. We will be shooting from multiple positions so knee and elbow pads are highly recommended for this course.

Intermediate Carbine Clinic

This class will focus on longer range engagements (50-150 yards), unconventional shooting positions, shooting on the move, rifle to handgun transitions, combat stress management, and multiple target engagement. You may use whatever carbine platform you will use in a fight (AR, AK, M1A etc.). Due to ammo shortage we have noted a minimum & maximum ammo count. 22LR are welcome.

Home Defense

2 Days

If ever there is a fight where you MUST be the Last Man Standing, it is a fight within your own home. Your family depends on you prevailing. This 2 day, non-live fire, Home Defense course will teach you the skills necessary to build a strong, multi-layered defense plan for your home. You will learn how to develop concentric rings of security, home hardening, safe room set-up, lanes of fire, family member rescues, CQB weapons manipulation, room clearing, low light encounters, police interaction and stress management. If you use a weapon to defend your home, this course should be on your short-list as an inexpensive method of training.

Prerequisites: Pistol 1 or equivalent course from respected training provider.

  • Personally owned airsoft guns with holsters/bb's and face masks are optional and will be inspected prior to use

Urban Defense

1 Day

Urban Defense will teach you how to manage life threatening situations on the street. This course is designed for the student who has a firm grasp of the fundamentals of pistol shooting. It will challenge your existing skill sets and give you new ones to take home. Topics include concealed draw techniques, alternative sighting methods, dynamic movement and shooting, fighting from the ground, dominant/non-dominant malfunction clearances, shooting from awkward positions, intermediate/long range handgun shooting, shooting in and around vehicles, mindset, and much more.

Prerequisites: Pistol Clinic, Pistol 1, or any pistol class from an approved training firm.

Ladies Defensive Pistol

1 Day

Designed to be the “next step” for ladies who want to move on with their training, the LMS Defense Ladies Defensive Pistol course focuses on ingraining fundamental skills and principals necessary for successful defense. Topics include close engagement skills, intermediate range shooting, open and concealed draw techniques, and an introduction to realistic shooting positions.

Prerequisites: Pistol Clinic, or live fire CCW course.

Pistol 2

2 Days

The LMS Defense Pistol 2 will take your handgun training to the next level. Topics covered include Alternative Carry Methods, Single-Handed Weapons Manipulations, Alternative Aiming Methods, Fighting from Disadvantaged Positions, and much more.

Prerequisites: Pistol 1 or equivalent training from a respected training provider.

Carbine 2

2 Days

If you intend to be the Last Man Standing in the fight of your life, you must teach yourself to effectively deal with threats throughout the engagement window of the weapons system. This means being able to deliver accurate fire out to 400 yards. LMS Defense's Carbine 2 course will reenforce marksmanship fundamentals, combat stress management, rifle zero, rifle manipulation, movement, use of cover, fighting from unusual positions, accurate fire from between 25 and 400 yards, team tactics and on going self-training tools.

Prerequisites: Carbine 1, Battle rifle 1 or equivalent course from respected training provider.

Bad Breath Pistol

1 Day

LMS Defense would like to introduce “Bad Breath Pistol” as the next evolution in gunfighting. Though it is important to train at distances of 15 yards and greater, statistics bring gunfighting occurrences at a much closer distance. Approximately 90% of gunfights occur from contact to 15 feet where approximately 40% of those were from contact to just 3 feet. This course focuses on rapidly clearing your holster and effectively delivering rounds utilizing alternate sighting methods at those close distances.

Vehicle Tactics

1 Day

How much of your life do you spend in a vehicle? If you are a commuting citizen, quite a bit. If you are an active law enforcement officer, about 3/4 of your career is spent in a vehicle. The Vehicle Defense Course is designed to train the student in life saving skills and tactics in, on and around vehicles. This course focuses on defensive shooting from and around the vehicle and an extensive vehicle ballistics lab. Also covered will be best practices for deploying your weapon, using a vehicle as cover or concealment, and extensive use of unconventional firing positions. When possible a ballistics lab will be conducted depending on range regulations.

Team Tactics

2 Days

Team Tactics is a challenging and fun course incorporating team movement safety, two and four person team movement, security overwatch, team based engagements, team communication, and forward, rearward and lateral team movement.

Long Distance Shooting and Data Collection

Subjects covered in this class will be: Equipment selection, Fundamentals of marksmanship, Scope mechanics and operation, Minute of angle and MIL relation math, Cold and hot bore zeroing, Internal and external ballistics, Ballistics data collection methods / recording, Correcting for environmental effects, Wind reading and adjustment, Spotting, Rifle diagnostics and maintenance.

Prerequisites: Precision Rifle 1 in the last year and a statistical zero on your rifle in the week previous to class.

Evolution of Mindset 1

2 Days

The Level 1 course in the Evolution of Mindset Series is an intense experience that is fast-paced and designed to elevate your skill sets to the next level of performance. The Mindset Weapons System Formulas (Dynamic Autogenics©) go beyond helping you achieve a high score in your chosen shooting activity but is the ultimate weapons and tactics administrator that may be a determining factor in your survivability. The Evolution of Mindset Weapons System Course at LMS Defense may be the most mentally and physically intense two-day course you will ever experience but acquiring the ability to use the Mindset Weapons System Formulas may be the difference between basic competency and becoming a skilled weapons manipulator and decision maker. The course is designed to teach you methods for reducing and eliminating the adverse effects of the Combat Stress Paradigm (auditory exclusion, fine motor skills deterioration and cognitive dysfunction). Typically, in most courses, the topic of mindset is only a brief presentation or afterthought with little or no application. The Mindset Weapons System Course at LMS Defense brings the mindset component to the forefront of training. . Each day specially designed scenarios will test and refine your ability to apply The Mindset Weapons System Formulas© to the Challenge Scenarios. During the scenario challenges each participant will be wearing a heart rate device that will provide real-time heart rate data to the instructors. This data stream will enable immediate feedback and enhance the development of an individual Mindset Effectiveness Zone (MEZ) for each student. The Evolution of Mindset Course, Level One, has been designed to place you in (controlled) high stress/failure/fear situations where you will have the opportunity to utilize and practice the Mindset Weapons System Formulas to maximize your performance.

Prerequisites: Carbine or Pistol fundamental training from a reputable company. Prior to the course, you will receive an audio CD or electronic audio file which will allow for course customization.

Advanced Courses

Our advanced courses build on and combine skillsets taught in a variety of our basic and intermediate courses. These classes require shooters to already have their gear sorted, weapons zeroed, and be in good physical shape for rigorous activity.


Practical Carbine

2 Days

The Practical Carbine course is designed to take the skills that students have learned in our Carbine 1 course and carbine clinics and apply them under realistic field conditions. Through a partnership with a landowner in south San Benito County we have been able to secure a large ranch with varying terrain and field conditions to provide our students with a training environment full of endless possibilities. Shooting from distances of contact to 400 yards students will be faced with multiple target scenarios and movement problems as well as positional and varied angle shooting. This training venue also allows our instructors to touch on other important skill areas such as realistic low light engagements, land navigation, movement and equipment selection for life beyond the flat range. The facility also has lodging on site for our students which is included in the course cost. LMS Defense will provide dinner on Saturday night. These courses will begin at 10 AM on Saturday and will end between 4 PM and 5 PM on Sunday. The late start on Saturday is due to the low light/ no light component. This course is in an austere environment and requires substantial physical activity, students should be in suitable physical condition to handle hikes in varied terrain with their loadout.

Medical Courses

Our medical courses range from basic CPR and AED certification all the up to TCCC and emergency austere medicine. We encourage all of our students to not just learn about firearms, but also how to treat firearms related injuries.


Tactical Wound Care

1 Day

Based on proven practice and taught by instructors with real-world tactical and medical experience, this course covers such topics as: Introduction to tactical medical operations, tactical Risk assessment, phases of tactical care & scene management, tactical medical equipment, tactical patient assessment, tactical trauma care, tactical triage & evacuation techniques, integrating with emergency services, and medical threat assessments. Successful completion of this course will include American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.

Care Under Fire

1 Day

Care under fire is the care rendered by the first responder at the scene of an injury while he and the casualty are still under effective hostile fire. Available medical equipment is limited to that carried by the individual or by the medical provider in his or her aid bag. This course covers such topics as: When to render aid, what to do with firearm(s), injury treatment, and all of these considerations while dealing with a deadly threat under attack. Employ your skills learned in “Tactical Wound Care” while learning the proper ways to evacuate an injured party quickly and easily. Students completing Tactical wound Care and Care Under Fire will receive TCCC certification.
