My main blade is a Strider Tarani Titanium Karambit.

If I am only carrying one blade, the karambit allows me to access ambidextrously and still be able to employ in standard or reverse grip and be effective.

Steve Tarani taught us a technique that allows you to carry the blade in your firing hand with it not interfering with the Fire Controls Group (FCG), but that is a NO-GO for me personally due to a tactic of not removing my firing hand from the grip. I came up with an alternate solution carrying it in my support hand while gripping the rifle that works better for me. It's funny, some folks in foreign countries are inured to firearms but if you flash a blade they often deescalate and move out of the way.

Carried centerline on my kit (photo for visibility demonstration purposes only, I carry it behind the mags where it is more concealed so can't be used against me in an entanglement situation.)

Knives bring out the fucking crazies..... however if we can keep blades in perspective of utility, functionality and finally beauty then this thread could have merit. I quit carrying a fixed blade for a long time, but finally decided to grab a pokey stabby for the specific purpose of reaching the heart with a stab through the clavicle while fighting up against a wall in the clinch. I know a very narrow margin for a piece of kit, but whatever.

I chose the Winkler II dagger with rubber grip. I already had one in wood that I ran for a couple years and wanted something more grippy for a knife with no hilt.

I like sharp pointy things, and I've got a ton of 'em. Here's a few:

Emerson CQC7 (production model) - my EDC
Small Sebenza - for when I have to dress up or need a much more unobtrusive/less scary looking folder
Spartan Akribis - hands down my favorite folder, it's smooth as silk and I love the design. I hardly ever carry it because I'm afraid to lose it (only knife I've owned - including a large & small sebenza, several Striders, a Hinderer, etc - that I've had this problem)
Spartan Enyo - sharpest damn knife I own. It's freaking scary sharp
Strider DB - my "oh shit I need to break something" knife.

I also have one of Joe Watson's first "hidden key" (I think that's what they're called) knives from when he first started selling blades over on LF. I'm saving it for when he makes it huge as a knife maker. ;)

Nothing fancy here, but this thing is a workhorse! Zero Tolerance 0301. My understanding is Strider and Kersaw teamed up to make a higher end knife, but made in mass quantities. I like it, tends to take up an entire pocket and like shooter101 said, it is heavy. I've had my eye on a Strider DB-L for awhile now but I'd like to get hands on before I purchase.

Just got this in the mail today. I am looking forward to exploring carrying a small fixed blade knife. Anyone spent any time carrying something like this and have any words of wisdom?

I am basically at the same place that you are at, just beginning to play with a small FB. I am carrying mine at 11. I have found that those sheathes leave much to be desired. I picked up two Dark Star Gear sheaths and have found that they are excellent, in my limited experience, when it comes to concealment and acquiring a full fighting grip.

I agree with your assessment of the sheaths. They are serviceable, but could be better. I will likely try out the Clinch Pick Fightworthy Sheath from PHLster and have a local guy make me one and then buy a couple of whichever turns out better. The TekLok kind of sucks though, so far the soft loop is the way to go at 11 o'clock.

I did look at the PHLster sheath, and they look nice. I look forward to hear your thoughts on that sheath, if you go that way. Not a fan of TekLoks either.

Not sure if you have seen this, but here is Jon of PHLster talking about the design of his Clinch Pick sheath.

Not at his post.
Shooters- been thinking of picking up one of those myself, guessing since you've been using it so long that it's not a bad blade for the money......

Went to Uncle Rich's Advanced Breaching Class and he advocated a fixed blade for different SOP stuff, my cousin is a Medieval Reny Faire Weirdo..but he's a hell of a blacksmith so I had him make me this basic fixed blade. I've also come up with a little tradition of having him make knives as a deployment gift for my buddies going overseas. image.jpg

Tops SWAT Spike gorilla taped to my vest, then my Benchmade Mini Dejavu. I actually used the TOPS to pry open a car door, chipped the coating but otherwise fine.

Know your local laws well and understand that using a knife against another person is generally assault with a deadly weapon even if justified. If you don't already have training and practice get both and have the proper mindset to understand the mental and physical repercussions as well as physical hazards (blood borne pathogens) etc... for utilizing an edged tool on another human. Don't become a "worm of the weird" with your edged tools and always remember "you" are the weapon.
