Kit prep time.
I’ve had these Outdoor Research Flashpoint gloves for awhile.
They haven’t been in use because the stitching in the finger tips (in particular the right index finger) blew out from use.
This means there’s no better time to modify the gloves to how I prefer good patrol gloves configured:
With the finger tips for index and thumb removed.
A bit of shoe glue seals off loose threads/stitching.
I was taught to modify gloves like this many years ago as a young digger.
I like it because removing finger tips on the most important fingers still allows fine control and manipulation of radio equipment, buttons and zips (gotta be able to pee in a hurry), pick thorns and bindies out of my hide, and pick my nose.
It reduces problems with snagging on weapon triggers - which to my mind is a very important safety consideration.
There is reduced coverage of the hand, with attendant reduced protection from sharp edges. But the compromise is considered worthwhile.
Especially since I still open doors and climb in certain environments leaving the uncovered fingers out of the way.
