Excellent design and controls, terrible execution. Oldest to newest top to bottom, two door frame contacts and one Recoil caused failure of the thread housing. Now the only lights I own that work are Surefires...just how it started.

Steve AryanAs confirmed in this thread most people buy stream light because it's a cheaper alternative to surefire. I don't know of anyone who bought a stream light because they felt it was made better than surefire. They may have felt it was close and that the price wasn't justifiable. Price aside, there is a clear winner in quality. Im speaking purely of weapon mounted lights.

My little brother is a broke ass cop (starting pay 19,500.00), when I see him with a "shit bird 9000" pistol light with the plastic housing made out of recycled vitamin water bottles and who's brightness is expressed in candle power, I get fucking pissed off.
Did he ever reach out to a surefire LEO sales rep and ask if they could do anything for him?????? Nope!
If you are a "shooting enthusiast"', sorry brother save your shekels and find some discounts on-line, BUT if you strap it on and go slay Dragons for a living, at least TALK to a mil/LEO sales rep and find out if they can help you out before you settle for a shit bird 9000.

Not everyone's opinion holds the same weight when an officer has scraped up enough money behind his wife's back to buy a light for his pistol and he gets lost in internet static and white noise.
That honorable young man risking his life every night when he goes 10-8 deserves to get the straight scoop.
So if we are a little heavy handed with the Derp around here, it's because we are leaning towards the side of caution.

Roy OrlovI was a huuuuuuuge fan of Inforce at first: it's just such a great value.
Was about to sell a bunch to a well funded PSD team, but they wanted a durablity test. Dropped my rifle with the M300A Scout onto the concrete 5 times from shoulder height, the Gear Sector mount got a little loose (tightened it back up, no prob)
From the rifle with an Inforce once and that's all she wrote.
I'm sure Inforce is away of these issues: hopefully a new design comes out soon. I don't think the material is the issue, since the Surefire polymer body lights are also plenty strong.

Matt LandfairOne I run into is caused by end user neglect - mount falling apart and light falling off.
March 28 at 1:08am · Like · 1 -
Jeremy JohnI will say, the way in which my TLR mounts to the rail is kind of a pain compared to my old dept issue Surefire. I believe it's the x200. The SL tension screw must be properly adjusted to keep it from loosening. Maybe an end user issue Matt is mentioning if the operator is lazy with it. Whereas the Surefire slides/snaps on clean.
March 28 at 1:18am · Like -
Roy OrlovAnother common failure point on SL is the aperture.
The TLR-1 is a great deal, don't get me wrong. Just if you have a weapon that is a tool and has to work day in day out, Surefire is definitely the best bet....See More
March 28 at 1:20am · Unlike · 2 -
Jeremy JohnRay forgive my ignorance, but can you explain what you mean by aperture. I frequently shoot mine and haven't noticed what I would consider an aperture issue. Do you mean the way in which the internal reflectors / mechanisms focus the beam? (I'm not being sarcastic...I really am ignorant to aperture being used in that context)
March 28 at 1:24am · Edited · Like -
Roy OrlovThe window through which the light shines: it's been known to break when mounted on pistols with enough rounds through as it's right there in the muzzle blast.
Surefire uses thick-ass tempered glass.

Matt JamesShit happens, people eat shit going in to cover/doorways/rooms at 100 MPH under NVG's, or slip and fall climbing or going down hills in rocky local's. It happens. Weapons hit the deck, no matter how hard we try to prevent it happening, sometimes with the 200+ meat eater attached to it. Been there, done that, quite a few times actually. What matters is what survives that fall, retains its zero, and keeps chugging after repeated abuse.
Streamlight and Inforce never passed that smell check for me. If the casing or lens doesn't break, the circuitry inside is sub par and may fail. SF all the way.
Only issue so far I have had with a SFer was the V head series of the M3, the tan ones, issued to use before Iraq 2010-11. The lights worked fine at first, then started flickering and eventually quit working. It was random and sporadic, not something I could tell was limited to one batch or another. SF fixed the problem... god help you if you have an issue with a light because they will throw up the bat signal, blackhawks will be en-route to your house, and they will secure that faulty product with a quickness. Thats a company that stands by its products. Sorry, but if Inforce is aware of its issues, and has yet to fix them, thats not a company I trust with a piece of kit for work.
I have broken a scout light lens, but that was a 1 in a million perfect falls were I ate shit and a corner caught it. Swap the head... done. If it can be broken, I will likely find a way.
