Handgun recoil control perception vs reality? Walter and Sig

So we have several handguns we’ve been evaluating and while I wanted to love the Walther line I really didn’t like how they shot compared to my Glock or the Sig’s we’ve been testing. I like the ergonomics and the trigger is excellent but they felt snappy and I wanted them to return to target quicker.

So... we have also been testing the MantisX and I figured why not throw it on everything and see what the recoilmeter function says. CABA8657-59B9-402E-9E98-7374D955A7D1.jpegCCBE65D1-28E0-49B6-A814-C357E4B4A719.jpeg

I stood in the shade and fired 10 rounds at 30 yards on A-C steel through each gun making sure to change the gun type in the MantisX program each time. Not sure that matters but might as well be done. Is this scientific? Not really but i gave each shot what it needed to ensure 10 consecutive hits and felt like the Sig was flatter shooting and quicker but the data says otherwise. WTF!?

I spoke with our Walther rep a few weeks ago and told him I didn’t really love how the gun shot but some of our officers did. He said the recoil perception may be because they use the original Luger chamber and it may make slightly higher pressure.

My opinion is it may be my over 20 years of really only shooting Glocks that has conditioned me to interact with the gun in one way if that makes sense. The data from the Mantis shows that while I perceived the Walther as being snappy and slower than the Sig it was actually the opposite.
So I still say the Walther “feels” snappy compared to the Sig and Glock but it doesn’t effect my ability to shoot it. Perception vs Reality strikes again.
