Pat in Centreville, here. I know there are a lot of folks in this group in and around NOVA and stretching out to the surrounding areas. Not much else to say, but the deck is nearly always open, beer is cold, and cigars are properly cared for.

Hey, Pat, I'm not too far from you. I just moved to the area and am looking for a good outdoor range. Any suggestions?

Hey, Matt. It's hit or miss here, especially for outdoor ranges. I think there are more down South of here, but NOVA sucks for outdoor ranges.

Good news is that NRA has their 50 yard indoor range that's rifle rated. Also, I've heard good things about Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas.

As far as outdoor ranges, I've only been to one public outdoor range since I've been here a couple times, and it's called 340 Defense just over the border in WV. The rates aren't great, but they allow you to run just about any drill you'd like as long as you're doing it safely. I stay the hell away from there any time I think that other people are going to be there. It's almost a little too free, if you follow. Makes me nervous. However, I have a lot of time off in the week, and if I go there during a weekday morning, there really isn't anyone else there except the owners.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like in order to be outdoors and avoid stupidity we need to just find someone with some private land that will let us shoot.

Another NoVA dweller here, Alexandria area for me. I try to get out to F3 as much as possible, which isn't nearly as much as I want, but thats life.

Just made it to Elite Shooting Sports this afternoon and they have a great facility. Much better than the NRA range….

I lived in Stafford from 2009-2011 and just moved back to the area last summer. Some how I missed your awesome shop until just recently when I got a chance to visit last month. Thanks for having such an awesome place where I can actually go get hands-on (that means a lot to me) with something and buy it from a real storefront. I live in southern Maryland now, but when I want something that you guys I have I always wait to make the drive and buy from your store so that I can show my support.

Anyone who has not been to F3 and is in driving distance should immediately haze themselves with 100 burpees and a 500m bear crawl then drive down to the shop!

Matt, thank you so much for those kind words and your support buddy. We are only as good as the folks who come to visit us and keep us moving forward. Much obliged, hope to see you back in the shop soon ;) P.S., we should probably start working on a Virginia Primary & Secondary Meet&Greet soon as well, ;)

I am sure you would get quite a few Maryland border jumpers to go to the VA meet and greet. I just came from Southern California and I was excited to get back to the East coast so that I could live a little more free. Yeah, that kind of backfired on me...

I wonder if there's a cool place we could all meet up at… maybe a tactical shop or something ;)

There is also a Dogfish Head Ale House conveniently located about 2 miles to the southeast...

Im a little south of you guys down in the Shenandoah Valley but run up to NOVA occasionally.

Not sure what kind of outdoor range you are looking for but about 2 - 2.5 hours south west from Centreville is the West Side Rifle Range out in the George Washington National Forest. There isnt a RSO so you are kinda on your own for safety but you can get it to yourself sometimes. There is also a outdoor range at The Cove campground in Gore VA which is west of Winchester so its probably 1.5 2 hours west of you. Ive camped there numerous times and usually have fun. They have redone the range and I havent been there since.

+1 for the Cove. I've run some courses out there and have had great experiences. While its a bit limited facility wise, if you show up early enough you can stake a claim to the pistol pit and will likely be left alone.
