Glock 19L gen 5

So with a lot of people bitching the Glock did it backwards with the 19x, I had a thought, but no way to test it.
Since the 17.5 has changed the barrel to be basically an extended 19 barrel, could one put a 17.5 slide on a 19.5 frame and boom the 19L. I have a 19.5 but not 17.5 to test this theory.

Just chop a 17 frame down to take 19 mags. It's already been done by lots of folks before.

A 17.5 slide on a 19.5 frame does not work.

I tried it and even though it fits, if you try and cycle it the slide will become stuck "locked open" except the slide release does nothing. Something in the slide catches on one of the plastic parts of the trigger mechanism and I ended up snapping the part off when I used a hammer to pound the slide back to battery.

YMMV with the brownells slides. If intended for serious use please test it thoroughly before relying on it!
