FNS Red Dot mounting solutions

As my eyes age, I'm having an even harder time with handgun sights. So, the obvious solution is a red dot. I've got one on my Taurus 327, and I'd like to put one on my FNS 9c. I'm not finding any reputable looking places on Google to mill the slide, but EGW makes a plate that goes in the rear sight dovetail. A new gun and the red dot isn't in the cards right now, so I'm looking for alternatives.
Good, bad, less ideal but probably fine?

My eyes definitely like a dot more. There's no doubt about that.
My concern is that I'll spend the $3-400 on a dot and rear sight adapter plate, and it'll be junk. So I would have been better off saving up longer, and putting that money towards better ammo to make use of the red dot that it's equipped with.
