Benelli Comfortech Stock cast shims and Haught method question

Not really digging the Beretta, I got back into the Benelli shotguns.

In replacing the the awful pistol grip that came on my shotgun with something more traditional, I picked up a Comfortech. Apparently there's about 5 different drop shims and a cast shim to favor the stock left or right (and must be one or the other based on the locking plate).

While this IS more of a "utility" shotgun more than a "fighting" shotgun, I'm curious to hear input from those who are more familiar with modern shotgun technique like Haught's.

Per Benelli, the cast shim is supposed to be oriented so the buttstock is favored out (away from the centerline of the shooter). So for a righty, the buttpad kicks out slightly to the right. For squaring up to the target as one would with a carbine, would one not want to flip-flop this and favor the buttstock more toward the shooter's centerline...opposite the Benelli suggestion?
