Ben Stoeger - Fundamentals Course, 2 days, 02/27-02/28

Day 1 - The day opened running through a USPSA-like stage set up at the range. This allowed Ben to judge all of our current skill levels. Of all attendees, I was the only student running from concealment. Most students were running Limited-class guns such as modified CZ pistols or STI Staccato 2011 models. This is unsurprising as Ben is a competitive shooter by background moreso than a tactical shooter. Day 1 progressed through static drills emphasizing trigger control, recoil control, rate-control and levels of sight confirmation as required by the nature of the target being addressed. Day 1 also closed with the USPSA stage being run again with notable improvement by most, if not all, students.
Day 2 - The day opened with a new USPSA stage. Day 2 more further emphasized different levels of sight/dot confirmation and heavily covered movement, including shooting on the move and moving into a shooting position. The drills used to demonstrate all concepts were practiced dry and live. Time on both days was well-utilized and a solid lunch break was given.

Total round consumption over both days was approximately 700-800 rounds. Per Ben, this was a significantly lower round count than the typical execution of his two day class in acknowledgement of the current ammunition situation. Ben is a thoroughly knowledgable shooter who lives up to his reputation of skill. He is an adept coach, frequently predicting from dry practice the impending modes of failure students would see when live runs were executed. Ben was quick with an encouraging word, unhesitant to offer incisive but un-insulting critique of technique always with the goal of achieving better results. The conduct of the range was always safe by design, and expectations were always clear. Having trained with many instructors, I would recommend training with Ben to any competition or defensively-oriented shooter who wants to push their skills.
