Armor fitment and an option

I spearheaded my agency's new armor purchase about 18 months ago to get everyone into FBI/LAPD spec vests and replace expired vests. During that process, my first vest (a KDH 3A LAPD spec vest) came in fitted about 1-2" too wide in the chest area. Its only noticeable when shooting or driving, however, but its uncomfortable when doing those things. KDH replaced it quite quickly and without issue and my new vest fits great. KDH also wanted me to keep the poorly fitted vest as well.

I'd like to figure out a way to make it useable. Anyone got advice on how to make the most out of this vests fit? Just deal with it? Is there a better option? I'm planning on getting an external carrier for it to keep in my POV or at home.
