Aero Precision Atlas handguards

Does anyone have any experience with the Aero Precision Atlas S-one handguards? Any thoughts on the product? Things to be concerned about?

I have a 12" handguard on a 16" barrel. Have only had this for a little bit, but it seems well put together so far. Seems to be the lightest handguard without going to carbon fiber. Just looking for other users who have thoughts on the product, good or bad.

I have one on a complete Aero Precision M4e1 upper that I ordered during a sale last summer. I ordered the upper with a 15" S-one hand guard on a 16" barrel. I had a DD fixed front sight, mounted on the front pic-rail to lower 1/3rd co-witness with a EXPS-2 (got it new on an amazing sale) and a flip up griffin m2 rear sight. Loved the rail until about a month ago when I checked the co-witness with the irons and the eotech prior to an outdoor range session and noticed the front sight was canted to the right. I found the locking mechanism holding the rail in place had walked just enough overtime to become loose enough to rotate from side to side with the amount of force needed to tighten the sling on the rifle. I had not noticed any play in the hand guard until that point and I dry-fire practice anywhere from 3-6 days a week for 15-30 minutes a session.

Due to being a college student with limited tools, I was able to lock the hand guard down to where it will not walk, however I cannot index the rail to the receiver to trust running a set of backup iron sights. This all took place within about 600-700 rounds through the rifle since purchasing it last summer without playing with the locking mechanism until I noticed the problem. (college student ammo budget, not a long-term eval)

All-in-all:
I think the rail is very comfortable
I enjoy how light weight the rail is
It does everything I need it to do (I don't have any lasers so not worried about that)
However, the locking mechanism slipped on my upper I don't trust it to host any backup aiming system.

Interesting situation with the rail walking (set at 42 ft/lbs for the correct index point). I've got one on my 18" Varmint gun. It was easy to install and super light to boot. My round count is far less than yours at only ~400 rounds. It's mostly been used for night time hunting. I've got no irons mounted but it has not moved since initial mounting.

Only time and rounds will tell.

*another sample size of one!*

Thanks to both you of you for your useful input. Based on Tmart's experience, I may add some blue threadlocker.

I am curious what people consider to be the important and or mandatory attributes of a quality free float M-lok rail system for duty use. What makes one brand better than another? I suspect all handguards would have some degree of zero shifting for rail mounted back up sights or lasers once force is applied. Everything is a compromise of weight, size, cost. It seems that there are endless options for rails and they all look about the same to my untrained eye. What should one look for in deciding what rail to use?

I have the M-lok 12 inch upper on my "homemade" rifle. I bought the completed upper from Aero and have 350 rounds through it without issue. Yeah I know it's a ridiculously low round count, but I haven't had anything wiggle around.

I will say that you can start to feel the barrel heat pretty quickly. After about 70 rounds in rapid semi auto.

Ive got upwards of 3000 through my Aero complete upper with an Atlas R One handguard. It’s maintained zero for my backup irons well enough. I like it a lot.
