EAG/LMS conducted a CQB Operations Course 22-24April 2015 at the Alliance OH PD Training facility.
This was an Open Enrollment course.
CQB Ops is a Scenario Based, Force on Force course and immediately follow the EAG Shoothouse Course at the same location.
It precedes the Continuing Education Course which starts 25Apr2015.

WX
T1- 36-42, windy with a smidgeon of rain, hail and snow.
T2- 35-38, windy, cloudy
T3-38-54, clear

Guns and Gear.
This is a FOF class, and there is no live fire- only UTM.
No issues were noted.

This class is the logical follower to the live Fire Shoot House. It is all FOF and we use UTM ammunition and equipment, which we believe is superior to Sims.

The course is appx 50% low light, and includes some off campus work.

The Night Monster

While the Night Monster is active and present in the Shoothouse Course, it is almost non existent in the CB Course.
There are multiple reasons for that, but the fact that the students are in a larger group (7-8), and have enough white lite on their carbines to enable a space shuttle to land.

If we had a space shuttle anymore…L
Once more, the proliferation of better lights in the 500-1000 lumen range make life much easier in working the house.
We do some off campus work in this class, and so we are in residences, office buildings and factories.
At no point has anyone stated that they had too much light…

Off CampusWe are fortunate that we can do some off campus work in this class.
This provides for much more realistic training.
In some instances this will be non -viable residential buildings- which in many cases are exactly what cops are in handling jobs everyday.
Having 20+ people jocked up in a neighborhood can be interesting and sometimes disruptive, so good PR is necessary and can sometimes lead to humorous exchanges.
In one incident, a female neighbor approached the team and asked “Why the fuck are you all dressed like Ninja Turtles and shit?”
Another loudly told her kidlets not to tlk to the Police as they will shoot you anyway.
But many more were supportive of the training and let us know that.

Role Players
Without a cadre of experienced RP’s, we would not be able to conduct these classes.
I have been to too many courses where FOF has turned into huge grabass functions, with the RP adamant that they will not lose.
This destroys the whole concept of learning.
We script the scenarios tightly, and hold everyone to that.
Good guys, no matter how many times they are hit, do not Die. They must continue to drive on.
To keep the RP’s from being beat up to badly, we place a limit on how many times they can get hit before they go down.
Not all RP are shooters. Some are bystanders etc, and don’t get to shoot at all= but they provide us with the opportunity to discriminate between bad guys and unknown guys.

Without the hard work by the RP’s – all of whom are doing this on their own time- the training would be drastically limited.
And to all of them, thank you!
Sighted FireI am unsure why people believe that unsighted fire past contact distance is viable.
In both the live fire shoot house and in the FOF iterations, we can see that those using sighted fire get good hits, while those not using sighted fire get poor hits or misses.
It’s science…

This was another great class full of great people. The days in this class, like the Shoothouse Course before it, are long-12-14hr days.
For many, it was the first time in this environment, as well as off campus training>
Paul Gardner- maybe one of the hardest guys I know- was present for the Shoothouse Course, and then for this CQB Ops course.
He rocked. He pulled and pushed himself around at the cyclic rate, and when he came to stairs, his team carried him up.

He complained on T2 that he felt cheated as he had only been shot 1x.
Soooo…
On T3 we assigned him as a Role Player, and he was shot.
Multiple times.
Maybe more than multiple times…J

He did however reign havoc on one team who failed to follow procedures…

AAR's are a great way to pass on information to others.
We believe that the student’s comments are extremely valuable, and it helps others make decisions on guns, gear and training.

Thanks To Donna who keeps the train on the track,

I am fortunate to be able to work with some very competent folks.
Assembling the Band for these classes-Doc Spears, Steve Fisher, Mike S, Chappy, Bill Peterson –and Joe Weyer. Kevin Brown, Dave Laubert from Alliance PD greatly enhances the training as well as gives us multiple layers of redundancy in all aspects of this training.
This would not have happened without you all!

Thanks again to Alliance PD and those great people who work at that great place!
Chief Scott Griffin supports the people of Alliance, his Cops and this training.
There is nowhere else where we could conduct this training.

All of those idiots who dislike cops should understand that there are a few PD’s and SO’s that not only allow Open Enrollment training, but actively encourage it

You really should take advantage of opportunities like this.
We start a CQB course tomorrow, followed by a CEC course here as well.

And we’ll be doing another Shoot House Course in Alliance 12-15 June.

EAG has been extremely fortunate in a great many ways.
One of those is that some very good companies support our students.
This support ensures that everyone leaves with something, and some leave with more than that.

Please take the time to send a *Thank You* note to these guys.
It is greatly appreciated!
