Carbine/Patrol Rifle Proficiency – Shadow Hawk Defense 5/23/2020
JDC staff has earned a reputation for teaching people to shoot fast and accurately by providing personalized coaching in the class environment. Clients have asked us for class offerings that focus on shooting better. By guaranteeing at least a 1:4 instructor to student ratio, you will receive personalized feedback from skilled instructors that have experience tailoring points of instruction to meet individual needs. Whether you are a beginner or a more skilled shooter, our staff can coach you to a higher level of performance.
Course Goal: provide the beginning or experienced shooter the techniques and methods to safely and efficiently shoot a carbine.
The class will cover AR-15 carbine/rifle manipulations, shooting fundamentals, and maintenance. This class will be enjoyable, challenging and full of valuable information for all shooters. There is something for everyone from the beginner to the experienced shooter, performance metrics are based on individual ability. You are going to have a great time shooting a mix of paper and steel targets. The class will give you the foundation you need to run this firearm safely, properly, and efficiently.
In addition, we will cover:
– Factors that legally allow the use of force
– Firearms safety
– Desirable features and upgrades for the AR-15
– Loading and manipulation
– Zeroing procedure
– Ammunition selection
– Height over bore, and its effect
– Shooting positions: standing, kneeling, and prone
– Tactical Sling Use
– Shooting from contact distance to 100 yards
– Common malfunctions and how to clear them
– Performance improvement plan

Equipment Requirements: You will need an AR-15 or similar semi-automatic magazine fed rifle, 3 or more magazines for your rifle, a tactical sling that holds the rifle across the chest hands free and with the muzzle down, the ability to retain at least two magazines on your person (i.e. magazine pouch), 250-300 rounds of reliable ammunition for your rifle (no steel core, bi-metal, armor piercing, or tracer), ballistic rated eye and ear protection (electronic amplified is highly recommended), not mandatory but also highly recommended is a brimmed cap. We also suggest a lawn chair and note taking material.
Attendance Considerations: There are very few pre-requisites for this course. At a minimum to attend you must know and should be able to follow at all times the 4 Cardinal Rules of Firearms safety! An open mind and a willingness to be challenged, to learn and to improve are desirable. Train hard! We hope to see you on the range.
